East Bay resident wins top international innovation award
Arthur Rosenfeld, a member of Diablo's 2007 "Fantastic Five", wins a top award from The Economist
East Bay energy expert Arthur Rosenfeld joined the likes of Bill and Melinda Gates and the founders of YouTube in receiving an Innovation Award from The Economist.Rosenfeld, who co-founded Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory’s Environmental Technologies and serves as a California Energy Commission member, was one of 10 scientists, entrepreneurs, visionaries, and companies to receive the award. The “newspaper,” as The Economist refers to itself, praised Rosenfeld as a pioneer in energy efficiency.
In October 2007, Diablo featured Rosenfeld as one of its Fantastic Five, East Bay visionaries who do everything possible to make our world a better place to live. Diablo credited Rosenfeld with creating a number of energy-saving devices, such as smaller fluorescent lights and reflective window coatings, that have helped keep California’s energy consumption rates constant over the past four decades.
Rosenfeld received the award at a ceremony in London in late October. Besides Rosenfeld, Bill and Melinda Gates received an award for their international philanthropic work. Other honorees were Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, co-founders of YouTube, and Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. The Economist established the awards seven years ago to highlight those whose innovation, intelligence, and creativity help drive global economic growth.
